Canadian eTA for Swedish Passport Holders

Apply for an eTA

Swedish passport holders need to have an approved visa waiver or eTA to enter Canada. The process of obtaining travel authorization for Canada from Sweden has recently become much easier with the introduction of the Canadian eTA.

eTA stands for Electronic Travel Authorization. This online system was introduced by the Canadian government in 2016 in order to facilitate the process of applying for a tourist visa waiver for Canada and eliminate the need to visit a Canadian embassy or consulate for eligible citizens.

Citizens of Sweden are among the eligible nationalities who are now able to submit an eTA application form online from the comfort of their own home, to receive an approved electronic travel authorization for Canada electronically linked to their passport.

It only takes around 30 minutes to complete the Canada eTA for Swedish citizens’ application. This page contains all the information an applicant needs to meet the requirements and submit the online form.

Do Swedish Citizens Need a Visa for Canada?

Swedish citizens traveling to Canada for up to 6 consecutive months do not need to have a visa, but they are required to obtain an approved travel authorization in advance.

It is now possible to obtain an electronic travel authorization (eTA) for Canada from Sweden without having to visit a diplomatic office in person, through the simple online visa waiver application.

An approved Canada eTA visa waiver is a multiple entry travel authorization that allows the holder to spend up to 180 days in Canada with each entry. It is valid for a total of 5 years from the date of approval, meaning there is no need to submit an eTA application before every visit.

Canada eTA Requirements from Sweden

Before you can start your application to get an eTA to Canada from Sweden, it is important to note that there are a few requirements. These include the following:

  • A valid passport – All travelers must have a valid Swedish biometric passport in order to travel to Canada and legally enter the country. It is also recommended to have at least 6 months of validity in the Swedish passport.
  • Personal information – When filling out the application, all travelers will need to provide information that pertains to their passport, their personal information (address, contact information), current employment details, and travel itinerary.
  • A valid form of payment – Travelers will need a valid form of payment, such as a debit or credit card, to pay the cost of the eTA
  • A phone, tablet, or computer – In order to fill and submit out the application, travelers will need a device with internet access, such as a phone, tablet, or computer

Applicants with dual nationality are also required to ensure they travel to Canada with the same passport used to complete the online eTA form, as an approved eTA is specifically linked to one individual passport.

Canadian eTA Application Process for Swedish Citizens

To obtain an eTA Canada online for Swedish passport holders, travelers will need to complete an online application. The application should take about 30 minutes or less to fill in.

The application will ask basic details about the traveler as well as his or her travel plans. You will need to include information such as full name, date of birth, and current employment, contact details such as home address and email, and a travel itinerary.

After the application is complete, it is necessary to pay an eTA fee and wait for a response. It is advised that applicants submit a Canadian eTA form at least 72 hours (3 days) in advance so that there is enough time to process it.

Nevertheless, Swedish citizens traveling to Canada at short notice and who urgently need an approved eTA are advised to select the eTA rush processing option when paying the travel authorization fees. By selecting ‘Urgent Guaranteed Processing within 1 hour’, the applicant is guaranteed to receive a response about the eTA status in under 60 minutes.

Once an eTA visa waiver for Canada from Sweden is granted, it is electronically linked to the traveler’s passport. The Canadian eTA is valid for 5 years or until the associated passport expires (whichever comes first).

This means that there is no need to constantly reapply for the Canadian eTA, even if the traveler plans to visit Canada multiple times within a span of f5 years.

The Canadian eTA can be used for multiple entries as long as they are under 180 days in duration. Those who plan to visit Canada for a duration of more than 180 days will need to apply for one of the Canadian visa types from an embassy or consulate.
