The Canadian government introduced the Canadian Electronic Travel Authorisation (eTA) in 2015 to facilitate international tourism. It is available to international travellers from selected nationalities that are visa-exempt and can use it to visit Canada on business, tourism, or need to transit through en route to another destination.

Slovenians are amongst the nationals who do not need a visa to visit Canada. They can apply for the Canadian eTA provided they meet some basic international travel conditions. The Canadian eTA is an online multiple-entry visa-waiver. It is valid for 5 years and allows Slovenian visitors to stay in the country for 6 months during each visit.

Requirements for the Canadian eTA for Slovenian Travellers

Slovenian nationals must check they meet the requirements for the Canadian eTA before they begin the application process. These conditions include the following:

  • Have an electronic passport valid for the Canadian eTA
  • Supply a frequently used email address

The electronic passport (also referred to as biometric) is a secure travel document. It grants entry in Canada for visitors from a wide range of countries. Travelling to Canada with undergraduate visitors from Slovenia

Any travelling party from Slovenia with minors visiting Canada must consider that each member must obtain their own their eTA. Their parents or legal guardians can submit their dependents’ applications on their behalf and use the same email address without any problems.

Last-minute Canadian eTAs for Slovenians

Slovenian travellers who need a last-minute entry permit for Canada are eligible to apply for the urgent Canadian eTA. This online authorisation can be obtained approximately in an hour and is available for the following situations:

  • Last-minute professional meetings
  • Unexpected changes in their travel itinerary
  • Family emergencies
  • Spontaneous purchase of a last-minute travel offer

Nevertheless, the Canadian government recommends using this option only if it is absolutely essential, and no prior arrangements could be made. Despite the estimated waiting period of one hour, this can sometimes take longer with the applicants waiting for the eTA to arrive while waiting to board their flights.

How long does it take to receive the eTA Canada from Slovenia?

The processing time for Canadian eTA is very short. Slovenian applicants can expect to receive their Canadian eTA within 24 hours from the time of their request. However, in some cases, the approval may take more time due to high demand or the need for further documentation. The Canadian authorities recommend applying at least 3 working days before their intended arrival.

As mentioned earlier, the Canadian Electronic Travel Authorisation is automatically linked to the Slovenians’ passports. They do not need to print out a copy. They are simply required to display their passport at border controls for scanning to be allowed to enter the country.

Canadian eTA extension for Slovenian citizens

Slovenians should note that it is not possible to renew the Canadian eTA. If they wish to remain in Canada for more than six months allowed by the visa waiver, they must request an extension for their Canadian eTA. They should submit their application 30 days before their current eTA expires, and it will be granted within 24 hours.
