By applying for the ETA Canada visa from Hungary, travelers can ensure that their entry via one of the country’s international airports is hassle-free for up to 5 years.
Do Hungarian Citizens Need a Visa for Canada?
Hungarian visitors should note that a valid visa to Canada from Hungary is required at the Canadian border, and that entry into the country will be refused without one.
Applying for a visa is thankfully a straightforward and simple process, however, thanks to the introduction of the Electronic Travel Authorization, or ETA. This electronic visa, which is linked to the traveler’s passport, now constitutes the main Canada tourist visa from Hungary, and can be applied for online a few days before travel.
ETA Canada Application for Hungarian Citizens
Once granted, the Canadian ETA visa is valid for a period of 5 years, or until your passport expires, whichever comes first. This allows for multiple airport entries into Canada during this period.
However, the maximum duration that a Hungarian citizen may stay in the country on one particular visit is 90 days. For stays of longer than 90 days, a different category of visa will need to be applied for.
The following entry requirements for Canada should be noted before applying:
This is a paperless visa, linked to each traveler’s passport. Only biometric Hungarian passports are eligible for the ETA visa, as the visa is electronic and access to the country will be granted upon scanning your passport at the immigration machines on arrival. Your passport should be valid for a minimum of 6 months from the date of intended arrival in Canada in order to qualify for the ETA visa.
The ETA is intended for travel by air only, and is therefore valid only for entry at the border of one of Canada’s international airports. Travel via one of the country’s many seaports or land borders with the USA will not be possible.
The intended travel purpose to Canada from Hungary must be tourism, business, or transit. The ETA is not valid for other purposes such as study, work, medical or retirement.
Applying for the ETA visa from Canada for Hungarians is as simple as completing an online application form and making an electronic payment.
Each applicant will need:
- A valid biometric Hungarian passport, valid for a minimum of 6 months from the date of entry into Canada.
- An online application form including the traveler’s full name, date of birth, address, contact details, occupation, and employment particulars, in addition to the passport number, date of issue, and date of expiry.
- Online payment via debit or credit card is required in before processing can begin.
- Email address in order to finalize the application and receive communication regarding its approval or otherwise.
Completing the online application form takes a maximum of 30 minutes, and will require details such as your name, date of birth and contact details. Your passport information and details about the intended purpose of your travel from Hungary will also be required.
Once the online application form is complete, payment via credit or debit card is required in order to submit the application for processing.
On approval, a confirmation email will be sent to the address provided. This may take less than one hour, up to a maximum of 72 hours in some cases.
Your Canada ETA visa for Hungary will be linked to your Hungarian passport, and will be read by the electronic immigration machines at the border upon your arrival.
No paper visa will be supplied, as this is a paperless visa allowing for up to 90 days of travel in the country via the airport of your choice. You will be required to leave the country before the 90-day period expires, however you may return for subsequent visits not exceeding 90 days for the next 5 years or until your passport expires.
