Applying for a Canada travel authorization for Hungarian citizens has become a simple and straightforward process since the introduction of the eTA Electronic Travel Authorization in 2016.
The eTA electronic visa waiver, which is linked to the traveler’s passport once approved, can be applied for exclusively online a few days before travel, eliminating the need to apply in person from a Canadian embassy.
An eTA is a multiple entry travel authorization that allows the holder to stay in Canada for up to 6 months with each entry. Once granted, the Canadian eTA for Hungarians is valid for a period of 5 years, or until the associated passport expires, whichever comes first.

ETA Canada Application for Hungarian Citizens
The following entry requirements for Canada should be noted before applying for an eTa for Hungarian passport holder:
This is a paperless visa waiver, electronically linked to each traveler’s passport upon approval. Only biometric Hungarian passports are eligible for the ETA, as the visa waiver is electronic and access to the country will be granted upon scanning the traveler’s passport on arrival. The passport should be valid for a minimum of 6 months from the date of intended arrival in Canada.
The ETA is intended for travel by air only, and is therefore valid only for entry at the border of one of Canada’s international airports. Travel via one of the country’s many seaports or land borders with the USA will not be possible.
The intended travel purpose to Canada from Hungary must be tourism, business, or transit. The ETA is not valid for other purposes such as to study, work, or for retirement. A different visa type from a Canadian embassy will be required for these purposes.
Only Hungarian travelers aged 18 and over may apply. Parents of children under the age of 18 may apply on their behalf.
